Heiligendamm
Die weiße Stadt am Meer, kürzlich noch Tagungsort des G-8-Gipfels, hat nicht nur die große Politik inspiriert. Sie beflügelte auch die Fantasie einer Künstlerin - und zwar ganz mordmäßig! Die international renommierte Fotografin, Tina Cassati (gebürtige Rostockerin), inszenierte hier eine Episode aus ihrem Zyklus "Matrose und Diva". Er will IHRE wertvolle Perlenkette, eine Anspielung auf jene Villenreihe am Stand, die als Perlenkette wegen eines Hausabrisses in den Schlagzeilen war.
Cassati geht es in ihren Fotos viel um die Symbolik von arm und reich, von Schönheit und Hässlichkeit, um Brüche im Leben, die sich gerade im geschichtsträchtigen Heiligendamm zeigen. Auch sonst wählte sie den "Tatort" zwischen Meer, Dünen und Bäderarchitektur nicht zufällig. Cassati: "Eine Vorliebe, die aus meiner Kinderzeit stammt. Ich bin in Bad Doberan und Heiligendamm aufgewachsen".
Die Models Christian und Xarah staffierte Cassati übrigens zum Teil selbst aus. "Ich nähe alles selber, hole mir aber auch Sachen aus Second-Hands-Shops ..."

Die Verschmelzung von Kunst, Mode und Erotik stellt das prägendste Merkmal von Tina Cassatis Arbeiten dar.
Über verschiedenste künstlerische Pfade wie Modellstehen für Maler und Fotografen, Teilnahme an Tanzperformances, Kostümschneidern, Texte verfassen und Malerei, gelang die gebürtige Rostockerin zur Photographie, die mittlerweile einen festen Platz in ihrem Leben eingenommen hat. Wichtige Rollen spielen nach wie vor Tanz und die von ihr selbst entworfenen, sehr ideenreichen Kostüme mit zum Teil sehr ungewöhnlichen Materialien wie zum Beispiel Folie, hinzugekommen ist die Videoart, also Arbeit mit bewegten Bildern wie zum Beispiel Filmcollagen. All diese Ausdrucksformen bieten der Wahlberlinerin die besten Möglichkeiten, ihre künstlerischen Ideen umzusetzen. Dabei legt sie sehr großen Wert darauf, mit ihrer Kunst andere Menschen zu erreichen und in eine Fantasiewelt zu entführen. Beeinflusst wird sie von den Surrealisten und Dadaisten sowie von der modernen Welt heute. Oftmals entstehen ganze Photogeschichten, aber auch Zusammenarbeiten mit Bands sind bei ihr keine Seltenheit und vielfach legt sie dabei sogar selbst Hand an, sei es beim Haarstyling, Make-up oder Body-Painten. Especially when there is a sufficient initial natural ambivalence, the wearing of clothes of the opposite sex can become a means of acquiring a new body. Male transvestism is foremost fuelled by exhibitionistic motives. Under the regime of the exchange of beauty for benefits, man is doomed to forever admire female beauty, while his own body is left in the cold, how beautiful it might be. More interesting are the four instrumental tracks from ‘Seelenschmerz’, which have been visualised by German artist Tina Cassati. ‘Schmerz 1 – Liebe’, ‘Schmerz 2 – Lust’ and ‘Schmerz 3 & 4 – Einsamkeit & Tod’ are three short movies with her interpretation of those tracks. We see new footage from Chris and Constance, mixed with other visuals and band pictures. Very nice!
The Gallery is also worth mentioning. Tina Cassati made a series of band portraits, in the typical BlutEngel way. Blood, pretty ladies, vampires and a romantic touch say enough.

About the videos, again: I've noticed that all of them have been directed by Tina Cassati. Can you tell us something more about her and about your way of working with her?

I met her during one of our concerts in Berlin...she's a girl that is full of ideas and is able to immediately make them concrete (www.tinacassati.de). I like her photographic use of images, that for me is something really fundamental.... Our relationship is one that has already lasted for more than three years; Tina is part of our family and through her help Berlin is now offering us more and more opportunities and proposals for collaboration.

Vedendo il video di 'Junior' sono rimasto sorpreso dal lavoro eseguito da Tina Cassati, anche perché non avevo ancora pensato ad un'interpretazione della tua musica in chiave sensuale! Come sei entrato in contatto con quest'artista berlinese e quali sono state le tue prime impressioni a video ultimato?
eng: I was watching the video ‘Junior’ and I was surprised for the amazing work of tina cassati, because she gave a sensual interpretation of your music! How did you get in touch with this artist from berlin and how did you reacted to the first sight of the video?
Ci siamo conosciuti quando abbiamo suonato a Berlino, è una ragazza molto laboriosa e oltre la cinepresa sa utilizzare molto anche la macchina fotografica (www.tinacassati.de), è stata lei a propormi di girare dei video e dopo una settimana è riuscita a prepararci un video per Bahntier e uno per Chaos/Order... ovviamente a differenza di molti artisti italiani che parlano parlano ma non concludono, lei di idee ne ha moltissime e non aspetta molto a metterle in pratica. Con Tina ho avuto la possibilità di spostare l'immagine di Bahntier anche in altri versanti come quelli dell'estetica erotica... Tina ha la qualità di vedere il fetish e l'erotismo con un'ottica molto personale che ricorda alcuni film di Kenet Anger e alcune estetiche esoteriche. Quando ho visto come è riuscita a montare in cut-up il tutto ho capito che qualsiasi indicazione era inutile perché aveva colto chiaramente il messaggio dal nostro concerto e l'ottica con cui fare il lavoro
eng: We met when we played live in Berlin, Tina is a very busy girl and she is able to work with videocameras and cameras as well. She had the idea of shgooting some videos, and after one week she came back with the video for Bahntier and one for Chaos/Order! Obviosly the difference with some Italian artists is that Tina goes straight to her goal, without talking so much. She has a lot of ideas and visions and she doesn’t wait that much. She gave me the chance to explore other images for bahntier, for example the one coming from the eroticism. Her best aspect is that she sees erotic art in the same way of Kenneth Anger , all mixed with more esoteric aspects. When I was looking at the video for the first time I realized that she had perfectly understood the sense of the track any any suggestion from me was totally unsignificant.

Tina Cassati – der Name klingt nach Italien und nicht nach Ostsee. Aber Tina Cassati kommt aus Bad Doberan (Mecklenburg-Vorpommern) und sie gehört zur Zeit zu den angesagtesten Fotokünstlerinnen in Berlin. Dort arbeitet die Mecklenburgerin aber nicht im Fotostudio. Ihre Aufnahmen entstehen in der Natur. Aber es sind nicht nur Blumen und Gräser, die Tina Cassati interessieren.
